Why We Hose Down Shotcrete During Arizona Pool Builds

Most people don't think much about what happens between the big milestones of a pool build. The excavation, the shotcrete application, the tile work - those are the moments that get attention. But there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that quietly determines how well your pool holds up long-term.

One of those steps is shotcrete curing. After we spray the shell, we come back multiple times throughout the day to wet it down. It sounds simple, but it matters a lot. Arizona heat pulls moisture out of concrete fast - too fast. If the shotcrete dries out before it has a chance to fully hydrate and harden, you end up with a weaker shell. Curing it slowly and consistently is what gives it the structural integrity it needs.

This isn't something every builder talks about, and honestly it's not the most exciting part of the process to explain. But it's one of those things where cutting corners would show up eventually - in cracks, in surface issues, in a pool that just doesn't age as well as it should. We'd rather do it right the first time.

Every new pool build we take on gets this kind of attention. The stuff you can't always see - proper curing, correct material staging, keeping a close eye on every phase of the build - that's what separates a pool that looks great on day one from one that still looks great ten years down the road.
